The twinning project Support to the Regulatory Framework Governing Organic Agriculture and Labelling (DZ 21 NDICI AG 01 25) is part of the European Union’s cooperation with Algeria and aims to strengthen the rules and institutions governing organic agriculture and product labelling.
The project is implemented by a consortium led by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MASAF), in partnership with Eutalia and the French Ministry of Agriculture. The beneficiary is the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Fisheries (MADRP). The project will run for 24 months, with a total budget of EUR 1 million.
Within the partnership, Eutalia is responsible for the administrative and financial management of the project. It also provides logistical and organisational support to all activities and helps ensure effective coordination among partners, in full compliance with European Union rules and procedures.
The overall objective of the project is to improve alignment with European standards in the field of organic agriculture and labelling. The specific objective is to strengthen the national labelling system in Algeria.
The project is structured around five main results/components:
- Result 1: Institutional mechanisms and the legal framework for organic agriculture are clearly defined.
- Result 2: The structures of the national labelling system are strengthened.
- Result 3: Stakeholders involved in certification are supported.
- Result 4: The work of MADRP in developing the Agricultural Quality Label is supported.
- Result 5: Communication activities on labelling are enhanced, contributing to strengthening the national labelling system.
To achieve these objectives, the project will include around 400 working days of EU experts in Algeria, as well as some study visits for Algerian experts to European countries, promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices.
The Twinning project officially started on 1 March 2026.
